The Roles:
This role offers the ideal chance for an experienced Senior Mental Health Fitness For Work Practitioner from either a Mental Health Nurse or Occupational Therapy background to join a multidisciplinary team to provide a full remit Occupational Health Service operating to high clinical standards. Your duties will include:
Conduct mental health assessments and connect employees to appropriate in-house or external wellbeing support.
Provide expert, evidence-based case management for mental health and neurodiversity referrals, including fitness-for-work advice.
Collaborate on developing SOPs, pathways, and documentation for mental health and neurodiverse support within the Fitness for Work service.
Facilitate psychoeducation, training, and critical incident debriefs for staff to promote mental wellbeing.
Lead and manage junior Fitness for Work team members across all MFT sites.
Interpret and manage complex health information, offering specialised advice on fitness for work and workplace restrictions in line with legal standards and policies.
Communicate sensitive health information clearly to non-clinical stakeholders.
Develop and lead innovative health and wellbeing programmes, aligning with key organisational health risks and initiatives.
Conduct clinical audits and evaluations to ensure quality care and support the strategic direction of the service.
Continuously review and improve clinical practices, using data to evidence service quality and effectiveness.
Support the delivery of the Wellbeing Strategy, focusing on mental health and neurodiversity.
Lead policy and process development for employee health management, including trust-wide policy contributions.
Act as an autonomous specialist, offering advice aligned with occupational policies and professional standards.
Required Skills:
To be the successful Senior Occupational Health Practitioner candidate for this role, you'll be:
NMC Registered Mental Health Nurse or HPC Occupational Therapist.
Recent CPD evidence.
Specialist Occupational Health qualification or relevant senior-level experience
Post-registration experience in NHS Mental Health services.
Extensive experience in mental health and risk assessments.
Developing collaborative, holistic care plans.
Supporting clients with various mental health conditions.
Working in challenging environments and with diverse stakeholders.
Developing and maintaining relationships with external partners (e.g., GPs, employers, OH).
Providing specialist advice or training to staff or teams.
Multi-disciplinary team collaboration.
Professional knowledge in fitness for work assessments for mental health and neurodiversity.
Policy and process development.
Conducting audits and evaluating professional practice.
Involvement in case conferences and MDT discussions.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to conduct detailed psychiatric assessments (mental state, risk, psychosocial history).
Proficient in complex fitness-for-work assessments.
Skilled in report writing.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Ability to handle sensitive data confidentially.
Excellent time management and organisational skills.
De-escalation techniques for conflict management.
Ability to manage under pressure and support change.
Conduct complex risk assessments and develop risk management plans.
Experience managing junior team members.
Strong IT skills (e.g., Microsoft Office).
